Laugh - Its Good For You

Extraordinary!

I am trying not to make this my forum for my weight loss. But something that I did this morning made me go WOW.

It doesn't take a real intelligent person to realize that you are gaining (or holding) a lot of weight due to over consumption of food. I understand that. No brainer.

On this website that I've previously posted about (CC+) it allows you to keep track of your daily intake of calories, fat, carbs, protein, fiber, ect... I've been keeping track for nine days. Love it.

I've been talking about tracking a day's menu BEFORE I started paying attention to my intake. So I did that this morning. I wrote down a typical day. Here is what I came up with:

Calories: 2800 +/-
Fat: 100g +/-
Carbs: 400 +/-

!

I've averaged the past nine days for me. This is what is looks like now:

Calories: 1500
Fat: 37g
Carbs: 180g

I know that I can do better and I will.

So even though I'm not dropping a pound a day (I wish!), I am feeling better. Especially knowing that I am eating healthier. I know it will pay off.

Just thought I'd share.

10 Pounds Melted!

Well, if you want the truth, I didn't actually "lose 10 pounds". I have been using an old scale and have wondered how accurate it really was. John balked at his weight when he weighed himself a few weeks ago. I was thinking, "deal with it, I am!"

I went after work yesterday and bought a treadmill. Its super nice and I'm about to use it for the first time today. I also purchased a digital scale. When I stepped on it this morning, I was magically 10 pounds lighter than I was a few minutes before on the old scale! So cool.

So even though I've lost only 8 actual pounds, I'm 18 pounds lighter than I was a few weeks ago! Thats a boost!

Skinny Pants

I'm addicted to a new website: (its not new, only to me)
www.caloriecount.about.com
It's fabulous.
Very helpful.
I'm on it several times a day.
Learning new stuff.
Keeping me motivated.
I can do it!

Check out the calories, fat & carbs that are in foods you eat!
Yikes!
Ouch!
Ugh!

Why does food have to taste so good?
I've decided that its evil.
Do you agree?
Lets boycott food!

The Guys and Us Girls

Saturday was a big day. Exciting. Different. Something we all need from time to time. The guys were doing guy things and us girls were doing girl things.

The Monster Jam was going on at Ford Field and John and all three boys were going together. Wa-hoo! I say that, because with the ages of our boys now, its very rare that all three of them plan to do things together. All week Alec kept reminding John to stop at a particular auto store and pick up the tickets. Of course each day something else came up and by Thursday the tickets were not in hand yet. So I took it upon myself (because I was going to make sure that this event happened) to call around to find the tickets and go pick them up. No luck. All tickets were gone. After a little searching online I did end up finding the four tickets that they needed. So it was on.

While all this planning and excitement was going on, Rachel and I were planning our own little adventure. Shopping of course. We didn't know where, but our excitement was growing as well. The older that she gets, the more interest in clothes and shopping she has. F-u-n!

Saturday ended up with John and Josh both having to work. No big deal. John had planned that when Josh got off work, he would drive Matt and Alec down to where he was working and all four of them would then proceed to the hillbilly festival...I mean the Monster Jam.

After the boys took off, Rachel and I got cleaned up and started our planning. She wanted to go to "the mall". I told her that the mall was overrated and that we would start off with shops in town. There was a new one in that I wanted her and I to check out. After going to China-Mart and finding Matt a jacket that he wanted (I couldn't believe that I found the style and size that he wanted/needed and it was on clearance -- $11!), we headed to the new store. JACK POT. All winter items were clearanced. Everything that we got for her was $5 each (sweaters, shirts and even a flannel pajama set) except for her $9 coat. Super cool.

We made a small stop to pick up a small coffee for me and a hot chocolate for her. It was FREEZING outside. So we sat in the parking lot chit chatting and sipping our hot drinks.

We then went into the new shoe store and got her a cute pair of black shoes. Clearance! We were bargain shopping and making every dollar stretch. Teaching my young 'en how to shop.

Our last stop was the bigger department store in town. We were browsing at this point because I didn't want to spend too much more money. We came to the handbag section. I found a purse that I could hardly part with. Rachel wandered over to the accessories and declared that she desperately needed a wallet. They were buy-one-get-one-free, so we each picked one out. I decided that the purse wasn't really a necessity and put it back. Oh how I still wanted it!

Our shopping excursion came to and end and we headed for home. At home we took turns on the computer and watched a little tv. During one of the shows, the song "Hey Mickey" came on and Rachel said that she loved that song and wanted to buy it from itunes. So funny! That song was sung by Toni Basil back in the early 80's and I remember loving it. That got me searching old songs and videos on youtube. Totally took me back.

By midnight, Rachel and I were in bed. Within minutes the guys were pulling into the garage. The guys and us girls had spent the day together separately, had a great time and were all home safely.

(flash forward to Sunday morning)

John and I are getting ready for church. He is filling me in on the crowd there and the noise level. He said they sold ear plugs for a dollar and sent Josh to get him a pair because it was SO loud. Josh brough back two pairs! One for John and the other for himself. Funny.

John also filled me in on the prices of drinks and food there. WOW. $4 for a 20 oz bottle of pop and $8 for a SLICE of pizza! They bought the pop and I guess a bag of popcorn to get them through the evening. On the way home they went through the drive through at Mexi Bell to load up on food to take back home and eat. I guess they were all starving by then. Can you say Ri-dic-u-lous!

Oh, and Matt LOVES his jacket and said its perfect. :)

"Straight Up Talk" with Kathryn Grace Jackson

So I'm at Janelle's.

Me, Julia and Kathryn are coloring at the snack bar. Somehow the conversation turned to my turning 40 years old this year.

Kathryn says, "that's terrible!"

A little while later Kathryn and I are snuggling up together with a blanket on the couch. She is practically sitting on top of me. She begins rubbing my arm, like I was doing to her a while before that. She comes across one of my moles. She begins to pick at it, like she's going to actually pick it off. I say nothing. She finds another one and does the same. Then she says, "you got bumps on your arms!" and then, "your arms are hairy!" and then, "you've got dad arms!"

Then....

My cell phone is ringing from within my purse. Since I am snuggled up with Kathryn and we are busy eatting popcorn, Julia goes to retrieve my phone. She is digging and digging in my purse with no luck. I say out loud, "I can never find my cell phone in my purse". And then Kathryn says, "you should get an organizer!"

An "organizer" has been advertised on tv lately, its some sort of purse with all sorts of "organizers" within it and she apparently remembers exactly what it is and that I need it.

Ha-lar-ious.

Baby David Visits

Rachel and I went to Janelle's to get little David for the evening. Unfortunately, its not under good circumstances. Janelle's mother-in-law Sharon has cancer and is near death. Feeling pretty helpless I have offered to help out with the kids as needed.

I have not been able to spend much time with little David, who is 9 months old now. What a sweetheart that little boy is. Rachel and I passed him back and forth between the two of us when we had him. She is baby crazy like her mother. Even John got into enjoying a baby in the house. He held him and talked sweetly to him. He then asked, "you are going to love having grandkids aren't you?"....UH-YAH! I think he will just as much...when the time comes.
