The Guys and Us Girls

Saturday was a big day. Exciting. Different. Something we all need from time to time. The guys were doing guy things and us girls were doing girl things.

The Monster Jam was going on at Ford Field and John and all three boys were going together. Wa-hoo! I say that, because with the ages of our boys now, its very rare that all three of them plan to do things together. All week Alec kept reminding John to stop at a particular auto store and pick up the tickets. Of course each day something else came up and by Thursday the tickets were not in hand yet. So I took it upon myself (because I was going to make sure that this event happened) to call around to find the tickets and go pick them up. No luck. All tickets were gone. After a little searching online I did end up finding the four tickets that they needed. So it was on.

While all this planning and excitement was going on, Rachel and I were planning our own little adventure. Shopping of course. We didn't know where, but our excitement was growing as well. The older that she gets, the more interest in clothes and shopping she has. F-u-n!

Saturday ended up with John and Josh both having to work. No big deal. John had planned that when Josh got off work, he would drive Matt and Alec down to where he was working and all four of them would then proceed to the hillbilly festival...I mean the Monster Jam.

After the boys took off, Rachel and I got cleaned up and started our planning. She wanted to go to "the mall". I told her that the mall was overrated and that we would start off with shops in town. There was a new one in that I wanted her and I to check out. After going to China-Mart and finding Matt a jacket that he wanted (I couldn't believe that I found the style and size that he wanted/needed and it was on clearance -- $11!), we headed to the new store. JACK POT. All winter items were clearanced. Everything that we got for her was $5 each (sweaters, shirts and even a flannel pajama set) except for her $9 coat. Super cool.

We made a small stop to pick up a small coffee for me and a hot chocolate for her. It was FREEZING outside. So we sat in the parking lot chit chatting and sipping our hot drinks.

We then went into the new shoe store and got her a cute pair of black shoes. Clearance! We were bargain shopping and making every dollar stretch. Teaching my young 'en how to shop.

Our last stop was the bigger department store in town. We were browsing at this point because I didn't want to spend too much more money. We came to the handbag section. I found a purse that I could hardly part with. Rachel wandered over to the accessories and declared that she desperately needed a wallet. They were buy-one-get-one-free, so we each picked one out. I decided that the purse wasn't really a necessity and put it back. Oh how I still wanted it!

Our shopping excursion came to and end and we headed for home. At home we took turns on the computer and watched a little tv. During one of the shows, the song "Hey Mickey" came on and Rachel said that she loved that song and wanted to buy it from itunes. So funny! That song was sung by Toni Basil back in the early 80's and I remember loving it. That got me searching old songs and videos on youtube. Totally took me back.

By midnight, Rachel and I were in bed. Within minutes the guys were pulling into the garage. The guys and us girls had spent the day together separately, had a great time and were all home safely.

(flash forward to Sunday morning)

John and I are getting ready for church. He is filling me in on the crowd there and the noise level. He said they sold ear plugs for a dollar and sent Josh to get him a pair because it was SO loud. Josh brough back two pairs! One for John and the other for himself. Funny.

John also filled me in on the prices of drinks and food there. WOW. $4 for a 20 oz bottle of pop and $8 for a SLICE of pizza! They bought the pop and I guess a bag of popcorn to get them through the evening. On the way home they went through the drive through at Mexi Bell to load up on food to take back home and eat. I guess they were all starving by then. Can you say Ri-dic-u-lous!

Oh, and Matt LOVES his jacket and said its perfect. :)
